The Following Projects are Planned for the Centre in Bokole:
New Life Church
Already a vibrant and thriving church community, New Life provides the hub of the Barnabas Community Centre. With a congregation of around 200 people it is led by Sean and Joyce McIntyre under the banner of Barnabas East Africa. Three other churches have been planted in Kenya through the church which provides counselling, support and encouragement as well as a variety of meetings and activities for teaching and fellowship throughout the week.
The church building is partially completed and is in need of a finished roof, a floor and most of the walls. However, in true African style, the church has already begun meeting at the unfinished building. When completed, the building will accomodate around 1500 people.

The School

The school will cater for children between 2-6 years old and will be based on the montessori system. The aim of the school will be to provide poorer children in our community with a high standard of education which has so far been denied them.
Future development may include the purchase of further land for the construction of further primary and secondry education.
Teachers & Assistants
Each class will be supervised by two teachers and an assistant with a combined annual cost of £3500. Class sizes will be from twenty to twenty five children with mixed age groups. As well as being common to Montessori, mixing age groups allows the school to minimise staff costs in the initial stages.

Child Sponsorship
The school will have both fee paying students as well as sponsored students but it is our aim wherever possible that students will be sponsored. To this end donors will be sought to ensure the maximum number of sponsored students. Where children are fee paying, we will endevour to keep fees as close as possible to those charged by the schools they are already able to attend.

Classrooms & Administration
Two double storey classroom blocks are to be constructed totalling twelve classrooms with a combined area of 672 square metres. Allowing for variations in material costs and exchange rates this will cost aproximately £90,000. Additional funding will be sought to equip the classrooms with furniture, books equipment etc.
An administation block (100 square metres) will be constructed which will occupy the second floor of the medical centre/clinic. The combined cost of the building will be aproximately £60,000.

The Clinic/Health Centre
Hospitals are often far from peoples homes in an emergency and people will sometimes avoid going at all because of the cost of treatment. Local clinics provide maternity care and even basic in-patient services for treatment of conditions as Malaria. However, with an eye on profit, they are often poorly equipped, dirty and unprofessional.
Our aim is to provide a clinic with a consultation room, a small pharmacy and a two beds for in-patients and midwife services. We want to privide a quality service whilst keeping fees to a minimum and so avoiding unneccesary suffering by the poorest people in our community.

Life Training Centre
The Life training centre will provide help and training on a variety of community related subjects.
A great deal of good can be done in the community by providing education on everything from basic hygene to family planning and HIV/AIDS. The whole area of HIV is still surrounded with much superstition in some sectors of the community and family planning is still a taboo for some people.
The training of simple skills such as tailoring and computer skills can change somebody's life by opening up new job opportunities. IT skills are of use in many workplaces and with a large number of garment factories based in Mombasa, tailoring is an obvious choice.
